Auckland has topped the global rankings of liveability, rising 11 places to take the top spot.
The survey, commissioned by The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), gives mathematical weight to such a claim. New Zealand's world-leading response to the spread of Covid-19 has been cited as one of the leading factors in the significant jump in rankings.
The EIU's index rates the living conditions and comprises 30 factors grouped into five categories: stability, health care, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.

A Bit Special, This One
This light-filled, magnificent five-bedroom two-storey home plus cottage is at the end of a metalled 3km country road, yet only ten minutes from shops, schools, cafes and medical facilities in Helensville. The property is a 4.7ha lifestyle block with small grazing suitable for a pony or a couple of sheep, and the rest mostly in prime native bush. A charming stony-bottomed creek wends its way through and harbours a secret 'waterhole' for adventurous youngsters to discover. This property stands apart both in its elegance, and what it offers. Stand in the doorway. Is it you?

Should the proposed marina on Waiheke Island get the green light?
Construction on Waiheke Island's Kennedy Point marina is to continue after an out of court settlement was made between campaigners and developers.
Four years of court proceedings have been withdrawn by Save Kennedy Point (SKP), after Kennedy Point Boatharbour Limited said they would put the welfare of a little blue penguin colony front of mind.
As part of the settlement, the developers have agreed to forgo all recent costs orders made against SKP and to not seek further costs from them.
SKP was facing bills of almost $250,000 sought by the developers and Auckland Council.
In more recent developments, the group has announced they will hฤซkoi to Parliament to deliver a petition asking Environment Minister David Parker take the case back to the Environment Court.
The petition, which already has 8500 signatures, was started by Uri o Ngฤri Pฤoa, who are occupying the beach at Kennedy Point.
What do you think about the proposal? Share your comments below and don't forget to type NFP if you don't want them featured in your local community paper.
