After visiting ACG Strathallan we were confident it was the right choice.”

The Mills family value the supportive academic environment, and the strong holistic focus. They are delighted with the choice they’ve made and are confident of the benefits this educational opportunity will provide.

Poll: Is it time to raise New Zealand's superannuation age?

Outgoing Retirement Commissioner Diane Maxwell has been outspoken about the need to increase the pension age from 65.

"You used to get super for five years, then 10 and now 20 - soon it'll be 30. I'm not sure how we can fund people getting super for 30 years or more."

New Zealand has one of the simplest pension schemes in the world - all you have to do is be old enough and have lived in the country long enough and you can get it.

But that also makes it expensive - about $14.5 billion this year. Jobseeker benefits, by comparison, cost just $1.7b and sole parent support $1.08b.

In the quarter-century since Once Were Warriors graced our screens, not much has changed for Auckland's poor. In fact, it could be argued things have got worse.

While the country bounced back from the economic downturns of the early 1990s and 2008, by some measures the gap between the rich and the poor is wider.

Māngere Budgeting Services chief executive Darryl Evans says although minimum wage had risen to $17.70, that wasn't enough to sustain a family living in Auckland.
