Only one section had a bad review and it was very much so. This was the Paeroa to Thames section with its stupid 57 concrete judder-bar cattle stops. These were considered a "huge spoiler" being "heart in mouth" frightening. Suffice to say word of mouth in the cycling community is very negative and repeat visits highly unlikely.
It is particularly sad, because local businesses such as Tastebud Cafe, The Convenient Cow and The Wharf provide such excellent local support to visitors, only to be let down by the quality of the trail.
Yet councils utterly misguided focus is merely to place expensive artworks along the trail. Te Aroha has some wonderful artworks but these are NOT at all a focus for cyclists. It is the quality of the ride.

So far:
- Parliament has been suspended until further notice on the advice of Civil Defence.
- Make sure you check on your neighbours - even though there may have not been any damage near you, your neighbours may still need your help.

- Metlink Wellington said rail services would continue to run with some delays following the recent earthquake.
- Fire and Emergency NZ had no reports of injuries nor damage across the South Island.

WeatherWatch.co.nz says more isolated tornados are possible this afternoon in the upper North Island due to instability in the atmosphere plus warmer than average weather. There's also the risk of isolated thunderstorms.
Sheryl Barlow, of Morrinsville, was travelling to Hamilton with her husband Ron when they spotted what looked like a tornado near Eureka, west of Hamilton, on State Highway 26. Read more
