Shortage of plumbers in Southland may result in price changes
As more plumbers retire in Southland a skills shortage is expected that may put pressure on the possible building boom in the south.
A fifth of plumbers are expected to retire within the next decade, and those leaving the industry say it will be a struggle to recruit new people.
Rohan Mahon, of Rohan Mahon Plumbing and Drainlaying, said a shortage in plumbers could mean a rise in prices.
"Plumbers, even electricians, will have to charge a fortune because they just can't get good quality staff."

With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.
This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.
