How would you react if you were told you had breast cancer? It could happen to any one of us or some one we love. It's great to know there is support out there if and when we need it.

Twelve Northland women have become "calendar girls" to help fund raise for breast cancer support in Northland.
The women - all breast cancer survivors - feature in the Strength and Beauty calendar which was launched on October 28.
Why not support this good cause by buying a calendar from Regent New World or Sportman's Choice.

We started women's and children's (girls) refuges in Western Australia and corresponding independent refuges for fathers and (sons). We also rented 10 houses at a time for those who we had assisted to become sober. Over 10 years, as well as drying out the majority of alcoholics and drug addicts that we housed over that period, both my husband and I were honoured with awards including the Young Australian of the Year Award. The WA government paid out appox $8,000,000 for buildings and infrastructure to continue the project and we left to shift with our five children New Zealand, where I was born. The numbers cared for over the ten years were approximately 20,000.
Recently I have done intense research and writing on natural cures and find there are so many cures for so many people, it is entirely ridiculous not to use the benefits of nature and logic, rather than chemical experiment and funerals.
I read a very recent article on natural supplements and the NHS Bill and I would be interested in speaking with Beverley Aldridge (the author) who cares, in my opinion, to fight for peoples rights and lives. If she, or anyone else interested in the freely available use of supplements or natural products would like to ring me on 022 136 1898, I would be pleased to meet with them.

For some older people Halloween can be a frightening and scary time so here are some helpful tips so everyone can enjoy themselves and come away with fond memories:
- Make it a family affair and go trick or treating with your kids or a group from your neighbourhood.
- Call your neighbours in advance to make sure it’s okay to call in to trick-or-treat
- If you don’t want trick-or-treaters calling print or make a sign for your letterbox or window saying no thanks. (New Zealand Police have had downloadable signs)
- If you are a trick-or-treater, respect the people who have a sign asking for you to stay away
- Keep your lights on and guests outside
- Keep your eye out for your older family members, friends and neighbours this Halloween and make sure we all get to enjoy the celebration.
Remember you can help make this a great celebration for your family and community and a great opportunity to connect with your older neighbours.
If you want to go one step further Age Concern New Zealand would like to encourage all Kiwis to sign up to their Dignity Champion Campaign to show a commitment to breaking down ageism and stereotypes and encouraging dignity and respect for older people.
Become an Age Concern Dignity Champion www.ageconcern.org.nz... this Halloween and involve and celebrate the older people in your lives.
