Mayor and councillor by-election
All those enrolled to vote in this month’s election for a Hastings mayor and councillor will receive voting papers in their letterboxes later this week or early next week (papers are posted out on November 2) . Everyone in the Hastings district will get voting papers for the mayoral by-election, while those in the Havelock North/Hastings ward will also get to vote in the councillor by-election. If your enrolment is not up to date or you are not yet enrolled, you can lodge a special vote from November 2 by coming into the council offices on Lyndon in person, or by contacting the Electoral Officer on 06 871 5018.
Remember, this is a postal vote – so put your voting papers in the supplied freepost envelope and put them in the mail, or drop the envelope into the ballot box at Council on Lyndon Rd. For more information see:
Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?
With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.
This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.
Do you think this ban is reasonable?
