Fire at Hastings Police Station

Hastings Central Police Station was evacuated last night after a small fire at around 7pm.

Hastings Central Police Station was evacuated last night after a small fire at around 7pm.

The fire, which started in the custody suite, was quickly contained by the Fire Service. Those in custody were relocated to the cells at Hastings District Court. One person was taken to hospital as a precaution after smoke inhalation. Minor damage was sustained to one cell.

Police are currently working to understand the circumstances of the fire and will be investigating in the coming days.

No words can properly express, how broken our hearts were and how there is still a hole in our hearts and a lump in our throats to think of her and desperately wish she had come home that day. Sending love and sympathy to Mr Jensen, Mrs Jensen and Michael wherever they happen to be. With love From Rhonda (nee Sellar) on behalf of other students at Colenso High School in 1983. A spring storm bringing gales and snow to parts of New Zealand has disrupted ferries, closed skifields in the south, and caused slips

MetService has issued the following warning for the heavy rain watch for the Hawkes Bay area, especially about the ranges.
Valid: 31 hours from 11:00am Tuesday to 6:00pm Wednesday
Forecast: Periods of heavy rain. Rainfall accumulations could approach warning amounts.

The New Zealand Transport Agency advised drivers to pass with care and expect some delays. People are also advised to stay up to date with the latest forecast as part of this watch may be upgraded to a full warning, and further areas added.
