Hey neighbours,
are you using the long weekend to tackle that long-over due reno? Or do you have a project you'd love to do in your home or garden but don't know where to start?

The experts at Resene are offering to help answer all your painting and decorating questions. Whether it's how to choose the right type of paint to cover a stain, how to go about planning a mural, or how long you really need to spend on sanding down that woodwork, they're happy to help.

Send us your question at homed@stuff.co.nz or leave it in the comments and we'll put the best questions to the Resene team (please note: we may not be able to answer every single question). The answers will be published in an article on Stuff ahead of the long weekend.

If you don't want us to use your comment or name on Stuff, please mention that in your post.

Meet Lavender - she is a 7-year-old Main coon (Silver tortie) who is currently at a temporary foster home for the Waikato Animal Outreach Trust.
Lavender is looking for a quiet home in a foster to adopt arrangement, she has been a very independent outside cat for the last 2 years and needs to trust humans again, she is a hider and needs a patient person in her life to be her companion - someone who has the time to spend with her - retired/semi-retired working from home etc with no children or dogs, she would suit an older person or couple.
In her current foster home she has responded to pats and a bit of chin tickling so is making progress

Anyone interested in providing Lavender a home please email Steph at waikatoanimaloutreach@gmail.com with some details about yourself, your family, and the home you can provide Lavender.

Lavender will need to be kept inside for quite a long time and taken to vet appointment as needed in Hamilton.

Lavender also needs a teeth clean and one or two teeth out which could cost several hundreds of dollars, we have undertaken many elective surgeries in the last 18months and our vet bill is rocketing - we need your help to get Lavenders teeth done so she can feel a million dollars.

Donations can be made directly to Vetora (Collins Road, Hamilton) or to our Op Shop at the Dinsdale shopping Centre and to our bank account:

ANZ 06 0225 0190554 00

ref : Lavender

If you need a receipt for tax purposes, please email Steph with your details.

Thank you

Hi Hamilton,

Does roading infrastructure need an upgrade in your suburb?

Some Hamilton drivers are performing dangerous manoeuvres directly in front of schools, abusing parking wardens and running red lights.

Hamilton City Councillors Sarah Thomson and Mark Bunting say inconsiderate and dangerous driving around schools is a city-wide problem – and it appears to be getting worse.

“Essentially people are driving and acting like maniacs around schools during the drop-off and pick-up times. People are parking on yellow lines right in front of crossings, or even sometimes on crossings. Drivers are parking right on cycleways and then do dangerous manoeuvres when they pull out,” Thomson said.

Traffic data shows red light running peaks at 9am and 3pm in the city - traditionally around the start and finish of the school day, respectively.

Community advocacy groups have suggested several solutions to curb irresponsible driving behaviour including having reliable bus services along popular commuting routes and safe cycle lanes.

Share your thoughts below and don't forget to type NFP if you don't want your comment featured in the Conversations section of the Hamilton Press.

“On that day, my husband went to work and kissed me goodbye and said, ‘see you tonight’," Fiona Goldby said.

“He nearly didn’t see me that night. I could've worked with people who didn’t know what to do, and I would've been gone.”

Goldby and her colleagues are advising everyone to take a first aid course. Read more here.
