Crimes related to stolen number plates include petrol thefts, avoidance of traffic-related fines or tolls, shoplifting, burglary and robbery.

There are a number of ways to keep your plate secure, including tamper-proof screws.

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone who has commented on this subject. Just a note from the Hamilton City Council to verify that submissions to its review on this topic closed late last year. The next step will be working towards a hearing where all of the submission will be considered by the council in the coming months.
