Hamilton has a new supermarket! And the best part is the food is all free. Yes, FREE!

Over the last four years non-profit Kaivolution has redistributed 574 tonnes of edible food that would otherwise go to the tip. Now, just in time for Christmas, they've got a shop where people can stock up.

The shop at 200 Commerce Street will open Monday to Friday between 4 to 5pm, and in January the extended hours will be 12pm to 4pm. To read more, click here.

Will you be taking advantage of Kaivolution's new store? Do you know someone who would benefit from some extra food at this expensive time of year? What are some other tactics for making sure edible food is not going to waste?

New Zealand is preparing for a future free trade agreement with the United Kingdom. We’re asking for New Zealanders’ views now, so we can take them into account right from the start of the process.

Key benefits we will be looking for include removing tariffs and other barriers that restrict the flow of goods and services between our countries, and closer cooperation on progressive trade issues, including environmental protections.

The combination of another warm humid day and light winds are expected to produce thunderstorms about many parts of the North Island this afternoon and evening.

Between about 1pm and 9pm today, a few of the thunderstorms could be severe about inland North Island areas from Northland to Whanganui, Taihape and Hawkes Bay (including Auckland), and also affecting coastal parts of Gisborne and Hawkes Bay.

These thunderstorms are expected to produce localised downpours of 25-40 mm/hr (or more), hail 20mm diameter (or larger), and maybe wind gusts of 60-80km/hr.

Rainfall of this intensity can cause surface and/or flash flooding, especially about low-lying areas such as streams, rivers or narrow valleys, and may also lead to slips.

Driving conditions will also be hazardous with surface flooding and poor visibility in heavy rain.
