as some of you may have heard, the government last week advised that non-daily publications, such as community newspapers, are not considered essential services under the news and media designation during the Alert Level 4 lockdown. Unfortunately That means that we won’t be able to print and deliver our your paper over the remaining period of the lockdown. However, we will be putting all important local news/updates on our Neighbourly page during the period.

Waikato people struggling to get food and other necessities during lockdown now have a number to call.

Freephone 0800 800 405 was set up by the Waikato Civil Defence and Emergency Management Group for people struggling to get food, groceries, medication or other household goods and services.

The group is not yet sure how big the need is, and say the 0800 number doesn't replace other Government helplines.

The anonymous foundation for all our reports remains if required, and all reports that relate to self-isolation breaches, illegal outdoor gatherings or similar, will be immediately forwarded to the appropriate authorities.

You will probably have caught up with news that visitors are no longer allowed at Waikato hospitals. The policy took effect today and includes southern rural and Thames hospitals.

"We recognise how important the support of whānau and friends is for our patients. However, this is an extraordinary situation and a necessary precaution for the safety of our patients, staff and community," a Waikato DHB statement said.

There are some exceptions, detailed in this story.
