Maria Gill. New Holland Publishers (NZ) Limited, 2011. Hardback, 32 pages. Excellent condition
A picture gift book produced as a handsome hardback edition with evocative illustrations by talented artist Heather Arnold using watercolour, pen and ink, pencil and acrylic.
Described as 'grey ghosts' because they are seldom seen in New Zealand forests, kokako are known for their incredible song.
This book delves into their world - one preyed upon by predators in a shrinking habitat. It tells the remarkable story of how the kokako, New Zealand's last remaining species of wattlebird, is being saved.
A second part of the book tells a special story - this is the successful quest of one conservationist to save 10 kokako from a forest about to be felled.

Like other uniformed children’s groups, the Boys’ Brigade once had a much higher public profile - those with memory of 20th Century New Zealand may recall routinely seeing lads out and about in the organisation’s military-cadet-style uniform.
A network of units around the country has continued since those days, with numbers going up and down over time – last decade the Brigade as a whole was the fastest growing uniformed youth movement in the country, growth which has been somewhat stymied since by Covid.

"Career Navigator has been a huge help in giving me as well as other students a complete understanding of the many businesses and opportunities available for us in the real world after school. It helped us recognise that everything is possible if we are prepared to go the extra mile in life, mentoring with a range of different people really gave us an in depth understanding of workplaces firsthand."
