After its “best year on record”, the Hamilton Gardens has once again been named in the top 1% of things to do in the world in Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards.

Over 500,000 visitors saw the Gardens over the last 12 months, and mayor Paula Southgate said it’s hardly a surprise that it’s been recognised once more.

Trip Advisor’s “Best of the Best for 2024” is the highest level of award presented by the world's largest travel review platform.

Saturday 6 July 2024, 10:30am-1:30pm.

WHERE: Waiwhakareke Natural Heritage Park, Baverstock Road gate, on the way to the Hamilton Zoo. Please note that this is an updated gate entrance (as we will no longer enter the park from the Rotokauri Rd gate, as previously advertised).

Bring a spade, water, gardening gloves and your gumboots! (we may have some extra spades available).

This event is free, family-friendly, and fun! Bring the family, plant some saplings, and have some food (light lunch and hot drinks provided). Help offset your carbon usage and plant some tree for our City Council in the awesome Waiwhakareke!

The future for Maungatautari Sanctuary Mountain looks increasingly uncertain, with Jobs for Nature funding ending this month, a $150,000 overdraft, and requests for additional support from the Department of Conservation being so far unsuccessful.

“We need central government to come to the table," manager Helen Hughes says.

The city council late on Monday confirmed 24 code of conduct complaints about councillor Andrew Bydder’s submission - he says as a private citizen - over constructing a third bridge in Cambridge.

The complainants include mayor Paula Southgate.
