This free event is the culmination of a year long project to capture ethnic heritage knowledge in such a way that the particular community has the resources and techniques to pass along the knowledge to the next generation, as well as the ability to share their cultural knowledge with the wider community.
This project, directed by professional puppeteer Ifat Vayner, is part of the Whiria Te Tangata programme, and is supported by Creative Waikato, EarthDiverse and The Ministry of Culture and Heritage. Please come along and celebrate the stories and artistic achievements of Hamilton’s cultural communities.
The event is free, family friendly, and fun (and there’s food!) and all are invited to attend. Please feel free to pass this information on to others in your networks. Every single day of September, come rain, shine or blustering gale, Russell set off from his home at Ryman Healthcare’s Greenlane village to walk to the top of the iconic mountain set in the heart of Cornwall Park.
The idea also coincided with Ryman Healthcare’s annual Walking for Wellness challenge, which this year aptly had an Everest theme.

On the 160th anniversary of the invasion on the western side of the Firth, commemorations were held at the site where Ngāti Pāoa members fought to defend their homeland from invading British marines, triggering a crossfire that resulted in violent shelling by the warship, forcing those of the north Waikato kāinga to flee.
