as some of you may have heard, the government last week advised that non-daily publications, such as community newspapers, are not considered essential services under the news and media designation during the Alert Level 4 lockdown. Unfortunately That means that we won’t be able to print and deliver our your paper over the remaining period of the lockdown. However, we will be putting all important local news/updates on our Neighbourly page during the period.

I understand it is facilitated through the Salvation Army and donations are used in the area they are gifted from. Apparently it went live on Friday afternoon and last night was already up to $700,000. That is amazing and great that the idea came out of our backyard. Well done Zuru. You out there might know about it, but we didn't. I will track them down and donate now!

Waikato people struggling to get food and other necessities during lockdown now have a number to call.
Freephone 0800 800 405 was set up by the Waikato Civil Defence and Emergency Management Group for people struggling to get food, groceries, medication or other household goods and services.
The group is not yet sure how big the need is, and say the 0800 number doesn't replace other Government helplines.

With normal daily driving the alternator has time to charge the battery each day so … View moreAt our auto electrical company we see a lot of "battery drain" issues especially with modern cars and Japanese imports that may have added electronics like GPS tracking etc, that slowly drain the battery. With normal daily driving the alternator has time to charge the battery each day so it doesn't cause issues but with our cars sitting in the garage for several days now is a good time to go out and see if it starts ok, before you need it in a hurry. After starting it let it idle for 5 minutes to recover what you have drained out of it from the start. If it starts slower than normal leave it idling for 15-20 minutes to charge the battery a bit more.

"We recognise how important the support of whānau and friends is for our patients. However, this is an extraordinary situation and a necessary precaution for the safety of our patients, staff and community," a Waikato DHB statement said.
