Love Art? EarthDiverse is pleased to announce its first ever Art Appreciation Café on Thursday evenings in November.

Everyone is a potential artist, and everyone can appreciate and interpret art. At our Art Appreciation Café we meet for informal discussion about works of art, artists and artistic developments. Join us over a cuppa to view and talk about exemplary pieces of world art. During each of our 4 sessions we will discuss 4 very different works of art from diverse eras and geographical places of origin.

After a brief introduction by an expert, we invite everyone to share their personal observations and insights.

At our first session we discuss cave art from Lascaux, a painting from the Italian Renaissance, German Romanticism and a contemporary New Zealand sculpture.

The workshop's conveners Peter Dornauf and Norman Franke look forward to seeing you for four evenings of spirited discussion about the arts in November.

Coffee, tea & biscuits will be available during each weekly session.

Thursdays beginning 7 November, 7:00-8:30pm, in Hamilton, New Zealand.

For more info on this and all of our other courses on offer this Term (beginning the week starting Sunday 20 October 2024, visit our website by clicking on the Read More button below.

We knit and crochet blankets, jumpers, hats, scarves, gloves and socks for people in Romania, Moldovia and the Ukraine. There is a desperate need for warm clothing and blankets in these desperately needy areas where war has stripped people of many of the basic needs we take for granted.. Our group is always needing more supplies as we work all year round – we can use up your odd balls or part-balls or even bigger quantities that can make a jumper. We have willing hands but are constantly needing fresh supplies of wool/acrylic. If you can help, we will be very grateful. Just ring me, Pat, on 021-057-0371 and I will arrange to pick up any quantities you may wish to donate.

A nature sanctuary is not a short-term project.

The effort to preserve and enhance Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari is, by definition, a very very long-term mission. It is a place that is saving species and bringing joy to people, and will do for centuries to come.

It is literally a commitment that is as close to ‘forever’ as any that can be made by humans.

Such an undertaking therefore requires financial solutions that will provide support far beyond the usual horizons of conservation funding.

Which is why the Maungatautari Ecological Island Trust has established the Maungatautari Sanctuary Nest Egg Fund at Momentum Waikato, the region’s community foundation.

This is an endowment that welcomes public donations and provides investment income into the future, for the crucial bio-diversity endeavours upon this beautiful forested peak.

The Government will today unveil a radical new plan to underwrite construction of new private houses, as high interest rates and an economic downturn make it tough for developers to get finance for new projects.

The new time-limited scheme is designed to de-risk developments, making finance easier to obtain for developers to start building. Developers often have to pre-sell a proportion of dwellings in any development in order to secure finance, which has become much more difficult in the current economic downturn.

Do you think the idea will work? Tell us your reasons in the comments (adding NFP if you don't want your words used in print).
