Drivers told to be careful after two kea killed on road

Two kea have died after they were hit by vehicles near Arthur's Pass.
The Department of Conservation (DOC) is urging drivers to slow down and be careful around the endangered birds, which often congregate near the state highway.

Jackknifed truck closes State Highway 1 in Rakaia

Emergency services attended a truck crash at the Rakaia bridge, south of Christchurch, this afternoon. The driver was out of the vehicle and uninjured, but access to the bridge was blocked following the crash about 3pm on Wednesday, a police spokeswoman said.
