Hi Canterbury neighbours. We are delighted to let you know your region has reached a huge milestone... Canterbury has now cracked the 100,000 member mark on Neighbourly.

The Neighbourly Team would like to thank every one of you for continuing to display your community spirit, especially after another challenging year. The Christchurch Mosque attacks in March showed how much Canterbury residents are prepared to come together to support one another.

We were blown away to see Neighbourly noticeboards filled with people wanting to make a difference in their community - reaching out to neighbours to organise visits to the local mosque and coordinating events to fundraise for the victims.

Canterbury, we hold you close to our hearts. Congratulations on the milestone and thank you for being such great neighbours!

“The staff are absolutely amazing,” explains Glenda. “They go out of their way to speak to you, to make sure you’re ok.”
Hoko and Glenda feel very fortunate for the support they received when Hoko experienced some health issues. It wasn’t just the village staff who provided support, the whole community rallied around them.
“When I got sick the community itself looked after me,” Hoko explains.
“I can’t speak highly enough of the staff here,” Glenda says.

Red Cross volunteers are working closely with Ministries of Health to support both response and prevention activities. Hundreds of people have already visited the mobile vaccination site at Samoa Red Cross.

Boundary changes have been proposed for Christchurch's Port Hills electorate, along with a name change to Banks Peninsula.

The electorate will gain 6500 people living in Banks Peninsula, who are now part of Selwyn, and lose 5700 from Bromley and Halswell, under plans released by the Representation Commission on Wednesday.

The changes, which include adjustments to Ilam, Wigram, Christchurch East and Rangitata, were designed to reduce the size of Selwyn, the fastest growing electorate in the country.

The commission is proposing to move 14,100 people from Selwyn into neighbouring electorates because the population is too high – 16.5 per cent above guidelines – and is projected to grow even further.
