Gisborne residents are being reassured repairs to a burst in the region's main water supply pipeline are running to plan, while water restrictions remain in place.

Residents are waking up to a second day of the conserve water notice since Gisborne's main water supply pipelines burst yesterday afternoon.

Mayor Meng Foon had been out to the site this morning, where he said repairs were running to plan.

While there was no shortage of water at the present time, he said the key message was still for locals to be conservative with their water usage. Read more here.

Pigeons — referred to by some as “winged rats” or “rats of the sky’’ overseas — are a major issue in the city and should be a council pest control responsibility similar to rats and mice.

Richard Jackson, a member of Emerald Hotel Body Corporate, told the Future Tairawhiti committee (all councillors and the mayor) the ‘‘pigeon problem’’ was so bad that Gisborne District Council, rather than building owners, should assume responsibility. The body corporate wants a ‘‘major cull’’ done by the district council this year, followed by an “annual maintenance cull’’. Read more from the Gisborne Herald here.

Crafts

Roimata from Gisborne District

Hi G-neighbors,
I'm after some newspaper for a project I'm working on. I'll gladly come and collect. I'll even take magazines but prefer newspaper.
Also after the big red Watties Tomato Sauce bottles. I think they are 2litre. Along with any clear 2.2litre coke/Fanta bottles.

These are all for the same project I'm working on.
I did try the recycling place but once gone in no one can take anything out. Sad, but I do understand.
Thanks in advance everyone.
Have a great day
