The house just south of Tokomaru was devastated by fire on Thursday, leaving a family without a place to live and any possessions.
Manawatū acting assistant area commander Tony Sealey said firefighters determined the blaze was caused by a kitchen fire and it was not deemed suspicious.

For us, this means we can welcome back our programme makers and guests, and other volunteers who help us.
We ask that if you are coming to the station, please wear a mask, scan or sign in, and keep physically distancing, as per the covid guidelines.
We also ask that for now, to keep your visits to a minimum. Please only come in if you have a scheduled appointment, recording session, broadcast, or other authorised duties on station. Once we drop to a level 1 or equivalent, then we welcome social visits again.
And if you're feeling unwell, or unsafe, stay home.
We endeavour to keep things running as normally as possible.
Any questions or enquiries, please ask.
I know not all of our volunteers have access to this message through Facebook, so where possible please spread the word.
Thank you very much for your efforts.
Todd
Station Manager.
