About a dozen affected properties – most newer semi-rural homes – were contacted on Wednesday, shortly before the council held a press conference about the issue.

An advertisement seeking potential owners of the six properties have been advertised in the Otago Daily Times this year. Public Trust head of marketing and partnerships Josh Byers said if no owner or descendant of the properties came forward within two weeks, the notice would then be added to gazette.govt.nz.
It is not too late for beneficiaries or descendants to make a claim once their property is sold. Find out more here.
