An Auckland man who flew to Dunedin has been confirmed as having measles while he was in the southern city.

Health authorities say he may have been infectious when he visited Dunedin's Esplanade Restaurant, in St Clair, for dinner, and while staying at the Bluestone on George Motel, both on July 22.

The man then visited Market Kitchen Restaurant, George St, for lunch on July 23.

Anyone who has developed symptoms should stay home and phone their GP or Healthline (0800 611 116) and let them know they have potentially been in contact with a confirmed measles case.

Lengthy delays for patients needing a colonoscopy, a state of inter-service warfare, and stressed clinicians in need of trauma counselling.

These are among the issues detailed in a damning external audit of colonoscopy services and bowel cancer treatment times at the Southern District Health Board (SDHB). The SDHB commissioned the audit following years of complaints.

Authored by Christchurch physician Dr Phil Bagshaw and Dr Steven Ding, the audit found serious problems controlling bowel cancer and dysfunctional relationships between clinicians – an issue known to but unable to be resolved by senior management.

Under contract law, parking companies can only claim for "the actual and reasonable costs they incurred". Charging $65 for a short overstay in an empty carpark is as far from reasonable as you can get.

Hundreds of thousands of inexpensive items that pass through the retail giant's checkouts every year, so it's only to be expected there will be recalls – Kmart even has a recalls page on its website, and there are 31 products on the list.

The $55 timber Occasional Chair is the latest casualty, although this is a withdrawal rather than a recall. We don't know the reason for its withdrawal, except Kmart says it is for "a potential quality issue". But what other products have been found wanting?
