A large fire at a Dunedin takeaway was caused by an unattended chip fryer, a firefighter says.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand was called to the fire at Satay Station, on Kaikorai Valley Rd, about 6.20pm on Wednesday.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand was called to the fire at Satay Station, on Kaikorai Valley Rd, about 6.20pm on Wednesday.
A woman and her young daughter escaped the blaze, with the woman requiring treatment at the scene for burns to her hands.
Dunedin senior station office Rob Torrance told Stuff the woman had been cooking chips prior to the fire, but left the fryer unattended.
A new law in Wales says schools are required to have gender-neutral uniforms.
This means that while uniforms can include both skirts and pants, schools can't label these as "girls" or "boys" items.

While it is feared the demotion may result in some international visitors striking Dunedin off their bucket lists, the uphill attraction is by no means the southern city's sole claim to fame. Click the link below or watch the video for five things Dunedin can still boast about.
The schools involved were Kelston Girls College, Northcote College and Waitakere College, and the activities they took part in included; tramping, water activities and a solo camping night.

Baldwin St had a gradient of 35 per cent, compared with Ffordd Pen Llech gradient of 37.45 per cent.

Prasad, 18, and the youngest in a family of five, is now working as a caregiver while studying a foundation course at NZMA for occupational therapy and has realised she โโcould do anythingโโ. She is the first in her family to go to university. The South Auckland teen has found her potential with the help of our Foundation that aims to transform young Kiwi lives.
