Kia ora neighbours. Motorists will no longer be able to turn right onto SH16 from Coatesville-Riverhead Hwy from May.

Waka Kotahi NZTA said the right turn ban is an interim solution to improve safety at the intersection while a roundabout is designed, consented and built.

There were 39 crashes at the intersection, including one serious crash and at least three fatal crashes, between 2010 and 2020, according to Waka Kotahi data.

Those wanting to turn right can instead detour down Old Railway Rd to use the roundabout at the intersection of SH16 and Old North Rd.

The local MP and local board chair were both critical of Waka Kotahi for failing to build the roundabout, which is still in its design phase.

Hello Neighbours
This posting is a call for support, Alzheimers Northland urgently needs donations to keep their services going. In their 30th year of providing life-changing services to Northlanders living with dementia, they should be celebrating but instead we are fighting to stay afloat. As a current board member and as a daughter of 2 wonderful parents who have both suffered from the affliction of dementia, I post this plea for support with a heart full of hope that it will resonate with someone who understands and is able to help.
