This Sunday, our pastor, Michael Brown, will be taking the fifth message in our series, God’s Answer to Anxiety. He'll be speaking on 'Fear not! God cares about you!' Astronomers are hoping for clear skies on Saturday morning when the longest eclipse of the 21st century works its magic in the night sky - it is expected just after 8am.

According to Nasa, the moon will be in full eclipse - or totality - for 103 minutes. But the moon will enter totality not long before setting in this country. The next such event will not happen again until 2021.The total lunar eclipse will be the result of the sun, moon and earth lining up perfectly.

HOW TO VIEW IT
- You'll need to be as far south as possible, have clear skies, and be in a location where you can see the Moon setting in the south west and the Sun rising in the north east.
- The higher you can get, the better. That's because the Sun will be barely clearing the horizon as the Moon sets in the opposite direction.
- Unfortunately, MetService is predicting Saturday will bring showers or rain in the west and south of the country, heavy for a time over the South Island.

- In Invercargill, there will be five minutes between sunrise at 8:12 and moonset shortly thereafter, with the Moon entirely within Earth's shadow.
- In Dunedin the interval is reduced to four minutes; in Christchurch, three minutes.

There's a little secret a lot of furniture retailers don't want you to know but which The Best Furniture Shop just loves to share: a huge amount of what's available at high end stores comes from exactly the same place.

The Best Furniture Shop owner Kim Booth grew up in a family of furniture retailers and decided to turn a traditional sales strategy on its head with the launch of the New Brighton store nine years ago. Instead of a plush showroom taking up high-demand real estate space, The Best Furniture Shop has a huge, simple fit-out in a low-rent part of town.

Savings from low-overheads would go straight to customers, with rock-bottom prices every day. Check it out on our website, or instore at 61 Hawke Street, New Brighton.

Guiding teenagers through the various career and study options available to them in the modern world can be a challenge. At this seminar, UC Career Consultant Dave Petrie will talk with parents about how to support their children in making informed decisions about their futures.

Parents and caregivers of secondary school aged children (Years 9-13) are invited to attend one of three free seminars which will cover:

- The world of work: looking forward

- How to make informed career decisions now and in the future

- How parents can assist

- Career development resources

Light refreshments will be available after the seminar. This seminar is being held on 9 August and repeated on 16 and 23 August – so choose the one date that suits you best.

Dave Petrie is a Career Consultant with the UC Career Centre, helping students to identify, plan for, and pursue appropriate careers, internships and employment opportunities. He has over 20 years’ experience working in the career and employment field, including seven years involvement in Career Education in Schools with Careers New Zealand before joining UC.

NOTE: This seminar is NOT about study options at the University of Canterbury | Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha (UC) – it is designed to help parents to help their teens consider ALL their options, whether this is work, university, polytechnic, an apprenticeship, private providers or other possibilities.

Do you recycle your long-life milk cartons?

Georgia Reporter from Stuff

Hi neighbours,

Did you know long-life milk cartons can't be recycled in New Zealand? There is no company which recycles them within the country, so the majority of them end up in the landfill. Although Auckland and Christchurch accept the cartons for recycling, they are sent offshore.

ACC Minister Hon. Iain Lees-Galloway recently swapped his suit for shorts and a tee to join a ‘Live Stronger for Longer’ strength and balance class. These classes help us as we age to retain lower body and core strength, remaining active to avoid falls.

No-one is bullet proof, falls happen and some can result in broken bones, pain and long healing times and can also make us fearful of falling again. Losing confidence can really affect quality of life.

Live Stronger for Longer strength and balance classes are growing nationwide. Visit www.livestronger.org.nz and join a class near you, you’ll find lots of practical information, advice and resources on how to live an active, healthy and independent life.

Proudly brought to you by ACC, MoH, HQSC and your local community health providers.
