This past week, Eugene Peterson died at the age of 85yrs. You may know Eugene Peterson as the translator of the Message Bible. About 12 Kiwi babies are born with heart defects every week. Many have to undergo multiple open-heart surgeries. It is the most common serious birth abnormality and the leading cause of death for infants and babies in New Zealand.
The Heart Kids charity supports these children - like preschooler Poppy Taggart, pictured with her parents, Jo and Ashley.
Christchurch Family Support co-ordinator Margaret Hewitt-Hawker says Saturday's event is a chance to acknowledge these children and celebrate their lives with other heart families.
