Nestled on leafy Windermere Road, you’ll discover a friendly community at The Bellevue. Marie has experienced it first-hand, telling us, “this is the place I’ve been able to make friends.”

Reflecting on when she first moved to the leafy village, Marie says, “Sarah (Guest Service Manager) got to know me in the first week. I had dinner with her.” Adding with a smile, “The chef here is absolutely marvelous.”

But Marie’s social life isn’t limited to delicious dinner dates; there’s always something happening at The Bellevue. “Sarah gets to know the residents and what they want to do. Everyone is different and has different needs. She’ll arrange things for what we want to do.”

Our Care Suites not only offer both Rest Home and Hospital care but feel like home too, with a living area, kitchenette and ensuite. And Marie couldn’t be happier. “I love my room. I have a little outside patio area. I can boil the jug and make myself a cup of tea and I can entertain friends. I have miles of photos up. I like having lots of photos around me.”

At The Bellevue, Marie has found that feeling many of us are searching for, “I wake up every morning and feel good.”

Hi neighbours,

Emma Milburn and Dart have been a search and rescue tag team for nearly a decade.

But as bearded border collie Dart, 13, gets older, she soon faces retirement, bringing an end to the special career shared between her and her handler.

The pair have been through a lot together. Milburn did all of Dart’s search and rescue training herself, pretty much everyday for eight years straight. The time and dedication it took to train a dog to be operational in search and rescue tasks was often overlooked, Milburn said.

More than five years after contractors first started ripping up Christchurch’s busy Riccarton Rd, the city council says no more work is planned along the 3.2-kilometre stretch.

Since September 2016, the council has spent about $49 million refurbishing and modernising the street, which stretches from Hagley Park to Church Corner.

The work has added bus and cycle lanes, made safety improvements to intersections, and replaced scores of old wastewater and water pipes that had reached the end of their usable life.

The final phase of work involves laying new pipes under a 1.7km stretch of Riccarton Rd between Matipo St and Hansons Lane.

The city council's infrastructure, planning and regulatory services general manager, Jane Davis, said this phase would be completed by the end of February.

It would take until the end of March to complete most projects in surrounding streets, she added.

“[After this], we do not have any roadworks or major maintenance planned for Riccarton Rd,” Davis said, though she pointed out that, as with any road, unplanned work could arise.

Eight new locations of interest – including a casino, department store and icecream shop – have been identified in Christchurch after two new cases of Covid-19 in the region were announced on Tuesday.

The locations included Christchurch Casino on Victoria St, visited between 9.30pm last Wednesday and 12.30am the following day, TANK Juice Bar in Cashel Square on Hereford St between 3.51pm and 4pm, and the Christchurch Adventure Park and Cafe in Cracroft between 3.40 pm and 6.30 pm on Thursday.

Anyone who visited the locations during the listed times was asked to self-monitor for Covid-19 symptoms for 10 days after being exposed.

The same advice was issued for anyone who visited the popular Riverside Market on Oxford Tce between 4.29pm and 5pm last Wednesday, Rollickin Gelato Cafe on Cashel St on the same day between 5pm and 5.05pm, or Ballantynes department store on Cashel St between 4.11pm and 4.31pm.

Anyone who visited Kathmandu on Colombo St in central Christchurch on the same day between 3.40pm and 3.50pm or Kmart on Riccarton Rd on Thursday between 7.45pm and 8.30pm should also self-monitor for symptoms.

The Ministry of Health advised anyone who developed symptoms to stay home until a negative test result was returned.
