Hi Neighbours!

Have you heard about our Community Connects grants?

The grants help fund projects that promote the inclusion and contribution of older people in community life, and support communities to prepare for an ageing population.

The fund makes one-off grants of up to $15,000. The grants are open to any New Zealand council, community organisation, or registered non-profit organisation. Applications for our current funding round close on 9 October.

Our last funding round was a huge success and helped fund a range of different projects across the country, that had focuses like reducing loneliness and social isolation of older people, developing an age-friendly community plan and supporting people with dementia.

With the right planning and support, we can create environments where older people are valued, connected and able to participate in their community.

Designed by architect Paul Pascoe in 1948 for his own family, the house was voted one of the best 50 houses of the 20th Century by Home & Entertaining magazine, and was commonly labelled “the first true New Zealand beach house” – not to be confused by our history of DIY baches and cribs.

And now, the house has been listed for sale by Rod Cross of Ray White Ferrymead, who says he's particularly proud to have such an architectural gem on his books.

Changes needed to stop Christchurch congestion from getting as bad as Auckland's

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from The Press

Christchurch's population is forecast to grow to about 640,000 people by 2048. If travel patterns remain unchanged, that would lead to a 20 per cent increase in the number of car trips to and from the central city by 2038, and a 34 per cent increase by 2048.

The most congested roads in Christchurch currently are Papanui and Main North roads heading north, Riccarton and Blenheim roads heading southwest, and Brougham St/State Highway 76. Brougham St alone carries about 50,000 cars daily.

What do you think? How can we reduce congestion in Greater Christchurch? Do we need better public transport, more cycleways, or changes to roads? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.

Contractors ride roughshod over Christchurch widow's driveway, then take down her fence

Jake Kenny Reporter from Community News

The sign at the driveway entrance reads “no parking, private property”.

That has not stopped contractors using it as a parking spot while they build units next door.

Carole Anderton, a former Christchurch City Councillor and wife of the late Jim Anderton, lives at the end of that driveway.

She understood the need for more housing, but the work has been going on for about a month. The contractors, without asking, took down part of her tin fence, putting temporary fencing in its place.

Hi all -

When we moved from the States last August, we brought my husband's Boosted Stealth electric skateboard along.

Unfortunately, there was an issue with the battery after our move and not long after he sent the battery in for repairs, the company went under.

All of this is to say: we have a perfectly good longboard with a flexible composite deck that is no longer electric, and we'd like to give it to someone who can use it.

The dimensions are approximately 96 cm x 22 cm. We will include the extra parts that we have, as well.

Thanks!
