This little fellow certainly doesn't let me forget as he acts as advance guard for the sparrow regiment by hopping right up to the dining room window and tapping on the glass at breakfast time, just in case I have forgotten. Not to be outdone, the finches let me know when their food in the bird house needs topping up by fluttering their wings and tapping on the kitchen window. So much for the expression "bird brain" as these little fellows certainly use theirs to advantage.

Would you like to learn how to cook delicious Indian food in your own kitchen? Indian cuisine is so much more than curry powder and Butter Chicken :)
My cooking classes are a mix of hearty homestyle recipes, curry-house faves, and takes on popular street food from across India's vast and varied cuisine styles. I love sharing my food journey, reflecting my own pan-Indian upbringing, with friends and fellow foodies.
Here in Chch since 2014, I currently am a cook at a boarding school, and mum to four myself :)
Being Indian, food is central to family values of togetherness and caring, and I thoroughly enjoy seeing these values translate into the community too, when people from completely different cultures and backgrounds come together in my classes and share a common joy of creating a new dish, and maybe even make new friends!
What's more, Indian food is super-accomodating when it comes to dietary restrictions or preferences of GF, DF, vegetarian, vegan etc. Ingredients are mostly from scratch, yet very economical, and almost nil in preservatives, yet always BIG on flavour!
My nightclasses for Term 3 at Papanui High School are open for enrolment. Class sizes are limited to keep them informal and relaxed, so sign up soon! Course commences Wed 3 August, weekly for 7 weeks.

Many instances are being reported of cars being water logged especially when parked next to rivers, and people being stuck in their homes due to flooded driveways.
With the already saturated ground and flooding, Christchurch City Council Civil Defence and Emergency Management Manager, Brenden Winder, said it was likely there would be more surface flooding and slips in hillside areas.
“Strong easterly winds are forecast to accompany the rain, which may create issues with estuary and river levels, particularly around high tide on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning.”
What you need to know:
- There are multiple road closures in the central city, including parts of Fitzgerald Ave and Cambridge Tce
- Some schools – including Christchurch Girls’ High, Hillmorton High, and St Thomas of Canterbury College – are asking students to work from home as flooding has made it difficult to access classrooms
- Council advises to clear leaves from sumps or drains on your property only if it is safe to do so
- If you come into contact with flood water, treat it as contaminated and wash your hands thoroughly afterwards
- Move cars, valuables and electrical items out of reach of potential flood water.
- In case of high winds, secure umbrellas, BBQs and outdoor furniture.
Council staff and contractors are ready to respond to issues and the council’s contact centre is open around-the-clock for residents who need help. To stay up to date with road closures and council updates, check the Christchurch City Council website.
