It's an intimate documentary series that gives us a peek into the lives of a Māori community here in the rugged Te Tai ō Poutini region of the South Island. What sets it apart is its authenticity, showcasing their deep connection to the land and their dreams for the future. The Arahura River, flowing through their ancestral lands with its revered pounamu, plays a central role. It's a show that'll truly move you – don't miss it !
West Coasters – Mane Monday 7.30pm on Whakaata Māori or streaming on Māori+

Closure would be devastating for individuals and families who rely on this support, leaving our community without a lifeline during its most vulnerable moments. Please sign the petition and show your support for this important service.
The Loft, which is based upstairs at Eastgate Mall, accommodates sixteen social service agencies, housing a wealth of information and expertise that they are eager to share and promote with in the sector.
Our CAB volunteers are there every Tuesday from 11am-2pm. We can usually be found in the library next to our big yellow flag if you want to talk to us. We also have a room in the Loft if you want to talk in confidence. No appointment needed.
See ‘Read More’ for the link to the petition and to find out more about the wide range of services it provides.

They might be eligible for Warmer Kiwi Homes, a government grant offering 80% - 90% of the cost of ceiling and underfloor insulation, and up to 80% off an energy-efficient heater, like a heat pump.
In August, the eligibility criteria were extended so over 50,000 more homes are eligible for insulation grants. It gets better - there are lots of community organisations offering extra funding to reduce the cost further.
Go to our website to check their eligibility, today.

Keep New Zealand Beautiful announced the finalists of its Beautiful Awards 2023 on Tuesday. The not-for-profit organisation has held the awards annually since 1972 and this year's winners will be announced November 9.
“The awards are a chance for Kiwis to put their community on the map and to celebrate a stand-out sustainability initiative," Keep New Zealand Beautiful chief executive Heather Saunderson said.
“This collective contribution is key to maintaining the biodiversity of Aotearoa and to creating a waste and climate conscious future for the next generations.
Christchurch was selected as a finalist in the large city category (major urban area with 100,000 or more residents) because of its council’s focus on sustainable local food production and distribution systems, a statement by Keep New Zealand Beautiful said.
Is Christchurch NZ's most beautiful large city? What do you like about the Garden City, or what could we improve? Read reporter Kristie Boland's full story here, and let us know what you think in the comments below.
