The Wild in Art trail… View moreThey might be black and white in the wild but a waddle of colourful penguins will be coming to Christchurch this summer – and you can help choose the final line-up.
The Pop Up Penguin project will see 115 specially designed sculptures located across the city from November.
The Wild in Art trail will include penguins painted by 50 established and up and coming artists and they will be in place for nine weeks, giving locals and visitors the chance to see them all.
Among the artists taking part is Indonesian artist Zulfirman Syah who survived the March 15 mosque attacks.
Stuff is inviting you to help commission one of the sculptures by voting for your favourite from five design finalists. Voting can be done here from midday on Monday until midday on Sunday, September 27.

The council says it wants people to feel they are being listened to and their views are respected. It also wants more people to trust the council’s decision-making process.
In May, the council released its annual residents’ survey, showing just half of the city’s residents were satisfied with the services it provided – down from 62 per cent last year.
Some 23 per cent of respondents were dissatisfied with council's performance and 27 per cent were neutral. It is the lowest result since 2007, when the question was first asked as part of the survey.

Residents on the east of the city have noticed more chlorine in their drinking water of late, saying the taste and smell has been much worse than usual.
Prestons subdivision resident Paula Ward said she noticed strong smells and taste of chlorine in her water about two weeks ago. It was "stifling", she said.
Parklands resident Roger Smith said he and his wife both noticed a stronger taste and particular smell of chlorine in their domestic water over the past week.
Christchurch City Council was doing maintenance work at the pump station in Marshland, acting head of three waters and waste Adam Twose said.
This meant the water people received would come from pump stations that were being chlorinated, he said.
"If you live in or around Marshland, you may be able to taste or smell chlorine in your water – this is normal and safe."
The work is expected to be done by the end of October 2020.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE) issued the recall on September 30, advising people to stop using it immediately as a user could be burnt or scalded.
What you need to know:
- Contact Biopak or ring 0800 246 725 to get a refund on faulty items.
- The products were sold from January 2013 to September 2020
- All resuable coffee cups (8oz, 12oz, 16oz) in plain green or white should be
returned to Biopak.
- Those with custom names “SexieCoffie”, “Columbit”, “Echo”, “Hedland”, “Crop to Cup” or “Home Grain”. Should be returned immediately.

A new partly sealed bike lane has appeared on New Brighton Rd, but it looks half done according to some locals.
What are your thoughts on this new bike lane? Is it safe?
UPDATE: A Christchurch City Council spokesperson said the lane would be extended hopefully this week and then a final surface would be added from kerb to kerb. The end result will be a consistent surface across the whole carriageway, he said. There will be a delay before the final surface is completed, early November, to allow time for the first one to harden.
The Netherlands Society Christchurch wants to build a replica Dutch Windmill on Marshland Rd, outside its clubrooms.
A fundraiser has been set up for the project which can be found here.
The society said even though it would not be an exact replica of a Dutch Windmill, it would represent home.

"It is about leaving a piece of history for future generations."
Donations will be used to transform the current base into a "beautiful on-scale windmill."

Every night Gary Bridgman’s Christchurch home is lit up like a sports stadium.
The Fendalton resident blames new LED streetlights installed on the street outside, and says complaints to the city council about an “unbelievable” glare coming through his windows have gone unresolved for weeks.
The two lights either side of the house produce a whiter light than their predecessors, Bridgman says, causing the house to be “lit up like it’s floodlit” at night. He has seen other LED streetlights in his area that are “very good”.
Council says the complaints are being investigated and the contractor has been asked to provide a solution.

The Christchurch City Council has voted to prioritise works in the east to address flooding that's been happening for the last 10 years.
Pages Rd, which is a main road to New Brighton, often floods when it rains, causing problems for pedestrians and motorists.

Pages Rd, which is a main road to New Brighton, often floods when it rains, causing problems for pedestrians and motorists.
Councillor for the area Phil Mauger got so fed up with the situation that he went in with a digger last month and dug a trench – it fixed the flooding overnight.
The council blocked the trench as it was deemed a safety hazard.
It wasn't going to fund the works to fix the problem for another four years – but voted to bring it forward to start next year at a council meeting yesterday.
The $12 million project includes a new stormwater treatment facility, stopbanks near the Avon River and a tidal wetland.
