Through these tough times we have learned the true strength and resilience of our communities and have witnessed first hand the abundance of aroha in Aotearoa.

Now more than ever, the fern seems to best capture the spirit of our country. If we look to our Māori roots, we are reminded of the twist or pikorua which resembles two intertwined pikopiko ferns - a fern known for thriving in dark, damp areas of our woods. A reminder that difficult conditions can actually be an opportunity for tremendous growth.

The entanglement of the pikorua also has no beginning or end which is often used to represent an everlasting bond. Although we are all on our own path in life, in the end we always come back together - we are all connected through our interwoven lives.

Aroha and solidarity rang out loud and clear across Christchurch's Hagley Park as tens of thousands attended a vigil to remember those killed in the mosque massacres.

People, sitting on picnic blankets and on chairs, turned to strangers and embraced, others wiped their partners tears and women wore headscarves to show their solidarity.

Speakers stood on a stage meant for the Bryan Adams concert cancelled a week earlier, and in front of them a sea of people sat in absolute silence as the names of the 50 killed were read out by the Linwood mosque Imam Ibrahim Abdul Halim.

Come along to our free public lecture: on Saturday, April 6th between 10.30 -1 pm, at Turanga/Central Library, 60 Cathedral Square, Central Christchurch.

For many people, it is time to explore a deeper meaning of life — to know thyself‚ as the ancient philosophers urged. One way to do this is through studying with the Rosicrucian Order.

You will explore how the human mind works, learn self healing techniques, unleash your full creative potential, empower yourself to achieve new goals, practise effective meditation to realise inner peace and harmony, and most importantly, discover your mystical connection with the universe. All this is done through home learning and personal experimentation, although there are local groups to join if you wish.

The Rosicrucian Order AMORC is nonprofit, non-religious, non-political. It is an international organisation — the largest of its kind in the western world — of educators, students and seekers exploring inner wisdom and the meaning of life.

To find out if The Rosicrucian Order can benefit you, go to the website www.amorc.org.au, or for the free, no obligation booklet Mastery Of Life phone 027 552 7777, or email nzrc@amorc.org.au

As you will probably be aware Cashmere High School was hit particularly hard by the cruel and tragic events of Friday, March 15th.

Two current pupils of the school lost their lives that day - Sayyad Milne (Year 10) and Hamza Alhaj Mustafa (Year 12). Hamza's father was also killed and his younger brother, Zaid (Year 9), is in hospital recovering from gunshot wounds. Two fathers of other students were also shot and are recovering in hospital.

Cashmere High School also lost a past pupil, Tariq Omar (class of 2012), in this horrific event. The father of past pupil, Imran Safi (class of 2018), was also killed.

The school has set up an account to which people can donate money that will be used to support the families in the school who have suffered loss. All financial donations can be paid to the following account: 12-3482-0034441-00

If you wish to contribute to this fund please include the following code/reference so the school knows it is a donation to this cause: CHSsupport

Our SCERT (Somerfield Community Emergency Response Team) would love to welcome anyone to join us at our (FREE) South CHCH AF8 Expo Event on Thursday 28th March at the Somerfield School Hall (from 7-9pm).

Although our original planning was focused on encouraging preparedness for the likelihood of the Alpine Fault rupturing in the future - our other aim is to also enable a good opportunity for our residents & community groups to connect further & greater awareness of where to look for more support.

We have a local resident & an excellent Guest Speaker: Tyler Barton who has kindly offered to share his fabulous knowledge & awareness about this topic & how we may be better prepared for it- we also intend for this to help connections between our residents & local community groups!!

Our SCERT certainly does not intend for this event to not add any extra stress or concerns for our residents after the traumatic events unfolding from Friday 15th March - hopefully this event may actually reassure our community and residents by enabling better conversations & awareness of the supporting community groups / individuals instead.

Thanks to Somerfield School Principal: Ms Denise Torrey for offering to address our community on this evening and enabling our residents to utilise the Somerfield School Hall for this event while St Marks Church /Hall is being renovated currently.
Hopefully we may see many of you at Somerfield School on Thursday as we have many individuals & community groups gathered for you to meet with and learn who you may connect to - if ever needed!
Any community groups attending with displays, leaflets etc will be invited to introduce themselves very briefly in the 15minute break between Tyler's 2 main presentations.
Would you or your community group like to be better known or represented to our local residents?
We will have representatives from Civil Defence, Neighbourhood Support, Red Cross, local Resident Associations, Community Patrol, SCERT & many others...
Tea, coffee and refreshments will be available on the evening.
Free NZ Blood Pens, SCERT Packages & other assorted useful leaflets will also be available on the evening!!

We look forward to seeing many of you this Thursday!!
Warm Regards Julie Tobbell.
