This past week, Eugene Peterson died at the age of 85yrs. You may know Eugene Peterson as the translator of the Message Bible. Only God knows the time a person is born & the time that a person will die, the certainty that we live with is that every day is a gift from God. I watched a fascinating interview between Bono (U2) & Eugene Peterson on the honesty of the Psalms & the challenge to live our lives in transparency before God. A special service will be held at Christchurch's Abberley Park Hall at 3.30pm on Saturday (November 3) to remember the children who have died from heart conditions.

About 12 Kiwi babies are born with heart defects every week. Many have to undergo multiple open-heart surgeries. It is the most common serious birth abnormality and the leading cause of death for infants and babies in New Zealand.

The Heart Kids charity supports these children - like preschooler Poppy Taggart, pictured with her parents, Jo and Ashley.

Christchurch Family Support co-ordinator Margaret Hewitt-Hawker says Saturday's event is a chance to acknowledge these children and celebrate their lives with other heart families.
