Nearly 6000 fines worth a total of $740,250 have been dished out for driving or parking in the city's bus lanes since the end of November last year, with just one bus lane responsible for well over half of that.

The stretch between Mona Vale and Deans Ave on Riccarton Rd, which opened in late 2018, has proven a major money-maker for the Christchurch City Council, netting the authority more than $560,000 in just 12 months. A total of 3828 fines were issued to drivers caught in the lane โ€“ an average of 319 a month.

Have you copped a bus lane fine before? What for, and where?

They even park on the 10 minute park outside the dairy so therefore the diary owners are missing out on business.

Happy Friday neighbours,

Sometimes the simplest things in life can bring the most joy.

Scott Wallace is the living embodiment of that notion โ€“ he gets maximum excitement from even the quickest glance of Thomas the Tank Engine.

And now he has him right outside his bedroom window.

Wallace, 46, Carl Denny, 38 and Dylan Denley, 35 are best friends who have lived together for the past 12 years as part of an autism care program.

When they moved into their home in Christchurchโ€™s Prestons subdivision about a year ago, the old letterbox blocked a parking space in the driveway.

John Denny, Carl Denny's father, saw it as an opportunity to do something nice for his sonโ€™s mate.

After embarking on a six-month project in his garage, John Denny produced a 30-kilogram steel, handmade replica of the popular fictional steam train.

From the street Thomas has the house number on it, but from the house and Wallace's view out his window, it has Thomasโ€™ actual number from the TV show โ€“ one.
