Hi there.

My names Brittany Kremers. I'm the chair person for the CDHB Youth Advisory Council. We are the first group like this in NZ and have been running for 3 years now. We help youth in the medical sector from ashburton to the west coast by advising, supporting, teaching and supplying what we can when we can.

We have a fantastic opportunity for anyone with a local or big business!! We are running out first big event at the end of this month and are looking. For a few more donations!!

We have a quiz night coming up. Please read more if you're interested in knowing more or even helping us out!!

The Canterbury District Health Board Youth Advisory Council is an organisation which works to improve all areas of the health system for youth from Ashburton to the West Coast. We have a membership base of young adults aged between 15 and 24 along with a member of the senior staff from the Canterbury District Health Board who acts as our liaison. This year we have a great opportunity to make some serious changes for youth in the health sector. Being a youth-led initiative means the changes we can make are limited by the changes we can materialise as a group.
Our objectives for 2018/2019 are:
To fundraise for a backpack containing personal hygiene items, information about the hospital and a few boredom busters. These back packs will be given to every inpatient aged between 15-24 years old.
To work with the IT students at ARA to create a ‘transition’ App. This will mean that those young adults who are transitioning from Paediatric services to Adult Services will have access to information about the process, who will look after them in each service and reminders for getting their prescription filled, ordering their supplies etc.
To create a new self learning package for health professionals called “Teens in Hospital”. This self learning package was created in 2016 by the CDHB Youth Advisory Council with help and we have had requests from CDHB staff who have completed this package to create another self learning package that is more in-depth and covering more youth health information from youth themselves.
To expand further than Christchurch; from Ashburton to the West Coast of the South Island as they are the areas we cover. We also aim to get the backpacks with information relevant to each hospital.
In order to achieve these objectives we need financial support. Although we work with Canterbury District Health Board, we are a consumer group and do not receive any funding. Subsequently we are looking for donations so we can run a quiz night and raise funds so we can continue improving youth health experiences inside and outside of hospital. We are offering to have your logo on anything that we have to do with the quiz night we are organising if you are willing to donate to us some of your fantastic work. Please contact us via the email below and somebody will be in touch with you if you have any questions or are offering to donate to this fantastic opportunity. You will be helping the CDHB Youth Advisory Council to continue what we are passionate about - helping young people in the health sector from all walks of life.

Thank you for considering this and we look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Canterbury District Health Board Youth Advisory Council

Hi neighbours,

Are you going out of your way to collect plastic bags before they become illegal in NZ? Some Kiwis have admitted they are stockpiling bags before they can no longer get them from supermarkets and petrol stations.

It's been noticed that some customers have been taking plastic bags for things like single chocolate bars and drinks "to save up".

Do you find plastic bags handy for bin liners? What eco-friendly tips and alternatives to plastic can you share with your neighbours? Leave a reply to share your thoughts.

Poll: Would you let the grass in your local parks grow to feed pollinators?

But actually a neat and tidy green lawn is a food desert for pollinators, and leaving grass unmown and letting so-called weeds like clover and dandelion flower provides food for bees and helps support biodiversity. Would you be happy if your local authority let the grass in your local parks grow long and allowed weeds to flourish?
