Hi all, just to let you know latest scam phone calls we have had this week after quite a break from them.
1. Foreign lady phoned on landline late at night this week to advise she was ringing me from Google regarding my computer connection. I have a large hooter by the phone so she got her eardrums blasted and I hung up the phone on her.
2. The second and more worrying call was yesterday - it was a pre-recorded message which the lady said she was from Mastercard and that there had been a large transaction on my card for $1,120.00 at New World and for me to press one to talk to a supervisor. I hung up immediately but some people could be sucked in on this one. These scammers are becoming more clever. Be careful out there people.

Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to the airport we go.

Crowds at Christchurch International Airport await the
arrival of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The theatrical troupe performed at the Theatre Royal in May 1968.

Trans-Tasman jet flights had been landing at Christchurch for three years at this point, Boeing 737s were replacing Viscounts on domestic services, and the airport terminal had been extended to cater for increasing air traffic.

However, people could still stand on the apron in front of the building to welcome travellers, restrained only by pipe and wire mesh barriers in the pre-terrorist age.

Mental health charity Voices of Hope has launched its annual holiday campaign - Unite Against Loneliness - which involves sending thousands of cards to members of the older generation through Age Concern.

Many older people already feel isolated and lonely and the Covid-19 pandemic has only added to that, the charity says.

"The art of sending a card to someone at Christmas seems to have been lost over the years, we are encouraging people to revive the tradition of sending someone a nice card in the mail," Voices of Hope co-founder Genevieve Mora says.

"This could be a family member, neighbour, someone you know of or mail it to us, and we can make sure it gets out to someone in need of a bit of cheer. Hopefully this will help someone feel a bit less lonely this Christmas,."

Cards can be sent to: PO Box 90202, Victoria Street West, Auckland, 1142.

The deadline for sending cards is November 11. Find out more here.
