Last weekend's show at Christchurch Arena featured more than 200 LEGO exhibits of iconic buildings, recognisable landscapes and movie scenes.

One exhibit was a microscale model of the Christchurch Museum and The Arts Centre, Te Matatiki Toi Ora, as well as a section of the Botanical Gardens and a row of historic houses.

Organiser Treena-Marie Aldridge said this year’s show featured the biggest exhibits ever displayed since the Christchurch Brick Show began in 2012.

The Brick Show was cancelled in 2020 and the exhibits for this year were at least two years in the making.

About 22,000 people went through the door over the two days, a record number, organisers said.

The next Christchurch Brick Show will be held on July 16 and 17 next year.

Did you go along this year?

Where do we start to say thank you....❣💐🤗

The kindness and generosity we have seen from the people of Christchurch in these past few days has simply blown us away.

Well done Angela Grocott for initiating this and allowing us to collaborate and bring on more collection points to grow it in size and guide you.

We thought we might have needed a small portion of a truck going to Westport but you amazing people FILLED the entire truck.

We sorted everything into sizes, summer, winter, new, second hand and labelled it all to make it a lot easier for them when it arrived in Westport. A massive job but we wanted to relieve some of the stress off them of just receiving boxes of unknown items.

Thank you to our amazing helpers that we roped in, Rose who popped in to see what donated goods we needed and was roped in to help sort out donated goods at Vicki's house all day, to all the amazing family helpers at Angela's house, Rachael's House, Michelle and Lynettes house thank you.

Kevin, Aaron from TIL Freight thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Aaron to back into what most of us would consider an impossible driveway , your determination paid off, and made less walking for us at one address. Kevin for helping load items the extra manpower was appreciated.

We have spoken to Samara in charge of Civil Defence donations in Westport tonight she is blown away by what is arriving and thanks you all so much for your love, kindness and generosity.

One plea from Westport Civil Defence Donation Centre please do not head over by yourselves with trailer loads of furniture etc they have NOWHERE to store it. Please bear with them for a week or so whilst they sort themselves out. She said remember they are only a small town of 5,000 and hence not having not much space.

There is also no accommodation if you want to go and help as those who have no homes are staying in the only hotels and motels so unless you know people or have a campervan etc there is nowhere in Westport for you to stay.

Donations to the mayoral relief fund would be greatly appreciated.

Please follow our facebook page to see the other work we do with care packages for victims of trauma and all new red cross refugee families.

Hey neighbours,

Fiona Stewart’s farm upbringing has shaped her into the person she is today.

It taught her the importance of food, animals and wellbeing, and how these can be used to better people’s lives, particularly youths.

Cultivate Christchurch is her baby. She first started the initiative with the idea it would be rurally based, but meeting co-founder Bailey Perryman, an ecologist, in 2015 showed her a farm school could be done without having to leave the city.

Oceania has always believed in better and so does The Bellevue’s Care Manager, Russell.

Since returning to the South Island five years ago, Russell has been proud to witness Christchurch’s resurgence. “Christchurch is like a phoenix risen from the ashes, with a tremendous opportunity to redefine itself.” And now he is playing his part in reimagining our city’s aged care offering.

Russell has built his team at The Bellevue with one goal in mind. “As the Care Manager I believe I have a principle responsibility to set the scene in providing an environment where staff can truly excel, feel empowered and make a positive difference to the lives of residents, families and each other.”

During the transition to care, extra support is provided. “Our fantastic Guest Services Manager is the key to helping residents feel at ease when they first move in, as she provides a hospitality overlay. She’ll get to know you so that she can provide all the extra touches that make you feel at home,” says Russell.

Another initiative Russell is proud of is that couples can stay together in the same room, even if their needs are not aligned. Russell has seen the impact it has on residents - “It is just wonderful to offer couples Care Suites which allow couples to stay together – just as they always have,” says Russell.

To find out more about our Care Suites, with Rest Home and Hospital level care, get in touch with Russell today.

Removing hundreds of bins from across Christchurch has turned some parks into “eyesores” and led to calls for them to be returned.

The Christchurch City Council has taken away 840 bins from parks and is installing 81 “smart” bins instead, leaving 211 neighbourhood parks without a rubbish bin and others with fewer bins than before.

While the council says the transition has been “very smooth” and has only resulted in a few litter complaints, residents and councillors are reporting a different picture.

Residents have resorted to picking up litter themselves, but their patience is wearing thin. Some are blaming the council for taking the bins away in the first place, while others say people need to be responsible for their own rubbish and take it home. Continue reading here.
