If your teenage son or daughter is interested in the military or is looking for a challenging youth organisation try cadets: The New Zealand Cadet Corps (NZCC, Army Cadets) and the Sea Cadet Corps (SCC).

The New Zealand Cadet Corps has an army flavour. Activities include camping, tramping, target shooting, leadership training and first aid. The Sea Cadet Corps has a naval flavour. Activities include sailing, seamanship and naval visits. Both the NZCC and SCC have camps and courses on military bases.

There's one NZCC unit in Christchurch, the City of Christchurch Cadet Unit. It meets on Monday nights, between 6:30 pm and 9 pm, at the Cadet Training Centre at 43 Corsair Drive, Wigram (near the old control tower).

The Christchurch Sea Cadet unit is TS Godley. It meets on Tuesday nights, between 6:30 pm and 9 pm, at HMNZS Pegasus in Montreal Street (the military recruiting centre, near Bealey Ave).

For more information contact the cadet Area Support Officer, Major Wayne Henderson, on wayne.henderson@cadetforces.org.nz, or check out the cadets online:

The recent armed robbery in the Bishopdale takeaway has now been followed by an attack at the Trafford Street dairy yesterday. This highlights the reasons why another Liquor Application in Trafford Street is highly inappropriate as it will encourage an escalation in this sort of behaviour. As appears to have happened in the last incident, the culprits "melted" into the surrounding residential area which must be of concern to those residents. Please attend the upcoming hearing of the Liquor Application - we have to show interest & impress our resolve to the hearings panel. Date to be advised soon. Thanks - Colin Fussell Phone 360 3130

Heading along to the final night of the Christchurch Lantern Festival? Help the planet while you're at it – Christchurch is trialling compostable packaging for the food and drink available at the Lantern Festival this year – which means a lot less waste for the landfill.

If it's brown - it will break down.
Look for the ECO symbol and put it in the green bin.
All other packaging goes into the red bin.

The ECO symbol means "Event Compostable Only" – make sure you bin it at the event, and not at home.

Disappointed there is no water in our property since an hour ago and when I called Christchurch city council, they inform me there is a work order in place and will not have any water for 4 hours.

If there is any work emergency, should they have to inform before so we could have saved some water to drink and for cooking. Anyone has similar issues with "No Water" today
