Since returning to the South Island five years ago, Russell has been proud to witness Christchurch’s resurgence.
“Christchurch is like a phoenix risen from the ashes, with a tremendous opportunity to redefine itself.” And now he is playing his part in reimagining our city’s aged care offering.
Russell has built his team at The Bellevue with one goal in mind. “As the Care Manager I believe I have a principle responsibility to set the scene in providing an environment where staff can truly excel, feel empowered and make a positive difference to the lives of residents, families and each other.”
During the transition to care, extra support is provided. “Our fantastic Guest Services Manager is the key to helping residents feel at ease when they first move in, as she provides a hospitality overlay. She’ll get to know you so that she can provide all the extra touches that make you feel at home,” says Russell.
Another initiative Russell is proud of is that couples can stay together in the same room, even if their needs are not aligned. Russell has seen the impact it has on residents - “It is just wonderful to offer couples Care Suites which allow couples to stay together – just as they always have,” says Russell.

Almost 1300 Christchurch households no longer have a yellow bin as the city council continues to take a hard line on trashy recycling practices.
During the past 12 months 1468 bins have been confiscated from properties following numerous warnings.
Just 177 have been returned, leaving 1291 households with no ability to have their recycling collected at the kerb.
Christchurch City Council took action after an unprecedented number of recycling bins were filled with non-recycleable material following the Covid-19 lockdown last year.

Our beautiful bengal cat Kevin was Killed by a dog on Sunday 22/8/21, someone had placed him on the side of the road on Monday morning between 6 and 7 am, as we had been searching, so we would think he was hit by a car. We had our vet do a post mortem that morning and he had multiple bites and … View moreOur beautiful bengal cat Kevin was Killed by a dog on Sunday 22/8/21, someone had placed him on the side of the road on Monday morning between 6 and 7 am, as we had been searching, so we would think he was hit by a car. We had our vet do a post mortem that morning and he had multiple bites and massive crush injuries to his chest which punctured his lungs. We live at 800 hills road (prestons road end). Kevin was mostly an inside cat, he never ventured far and our home is down a long long drive, he was raised with big dogs and sadly was the kindest gentle cat who loved everyone and didn’t deserve this. It would have to be a big dog as Kevin was a big boy and weighed almost 8kgs. This post is just for information incase your cat goes missing in the area.
