You might notice a new addition to Victoria Square in the new year! A new $319,000 taxpayer-funded sculpture paying tribute to the Treaty of Waitangi signatories is likely to be installed in the Christchurch park.
The two 4.75 metre-tall upright waka, titled Mana Motuhake, is by carver Fayne Robinson, and commemorates the significant Treaty signatories and by extension would support the achievements and memory of Queen Victoria. To read more, click here.

A replica has been built in the $5m neighbouring playground, which opened in December 2017, but seeing the original whale go had been hard for some people, North Beach resident and Coastal Burwood Community Board chairwoman Kim Money says.
