"Kia ora – Jeremy Baars from New World Ilam here. Keen to discover a new top drop in time for summer?

My favourite wine from this year’s New World Wine Awards is Stoneleigh’s Latitude Marlborough Chardonnay. It’s an excellent example of the Chardonnay style that customers are loving: rich, creamy and buttery, and full of stone fruit flavours. It goes well with dishes that have rich sauces like pasta or seafood and chicken. If Chardonnay isn’t your type, then give Lindauer Rosé a go – it’s a bottle of celebration and fun that’s good quality and at a great price.”

Come into your local New World and explore the Top 50 Gold-medal winning wines – we have winners for every budget. Plus join us for complimentary wine sampling and try before you buy.

Fun with numbers - local elections

I was playing with some numbers, so thought I will share here - for those keen. This is just for fun, not a scientific analysis!

All three councillors from Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood received in excess of 70% votes; hence clear margin over rivals. On the other hand, the closest race was in Halswell where the two top candidates have 3756 and 3580 votes (less than 200 margin).

Cr. Aaron Keown got more votes as a Council candidate (5309) than as a Community Board candidate (4605). On the other hand, Cr. Catherine Chu got less votes as a Council Candidate (2392) than as a Community Board candidate (2779).

Perhaps Gamal Fouda (Community Board - Riccarton) is the 'luckiest' candidate - getting elected with 'just' 1113 votes. This is because the top ranked Community Board candidate also won as a Councillor, hence 'vacated' the Community Board member seat.

Christchurch had 41.07% voter return. The wards with highest voter turnout are: Banks Peninsula (52.7%), Cashmere (48.85%) and Fendalton (47.57%); while the least turnout was at Linwood (33.23%), Central (33.43%), Riccarton (35.30%).
