I've always thought of reno blogging as a way to document a difficult process in a fun, relatable way. The benefit? Emotional support and maybe advice from folks following your journey - and maybe a little ego bump from showing off your mad wallpapering skills.

If you're lucky, and good, you might be given a couple of cans of paint from your local hardware store, to help you on the way - but that would be the icing on the tip of the social media cake.
Few of us would have the energy or knowhow to turn their reno into a part time side hustle that's both creatively fulfilling, and engaging.
But that's exactly what Moochstyle's Shayden and Georgia Whipps have done - with some pawsome help from their gorgeous dog Frankie. They've been blogging their Christchurch villa reno since they bought their home and Shayden shared their story with us for the final episode of First Rung, our podcast. A first time homeowner and renovator, Shayden is such an inspiring guy to chat with. He makes you want to jump in and give it go. Check out his story and let us know what you think.

Addington Raceway was a sell-out for the annual New Zealand Trotting Cup, the most prestigious and richest harness racing event in the country.
With the event attracting racegoers around Aotearoa, officials agree that this race has a positive impact on the local economy. On the other side, animal rights activists SAFE states that using horses for sport puts immense pressure on a horse's anatomy and that the sport should not be continued.
Do you think horse racing should be banned?

The tiny butterflies, which are yet to have an official name, have been declining in numbers due to their natural habitat rapidly disappearing.
After hearing about their plight from “Bug man” Ruud Kleinpaste, children from Burnside Primary School have been championing the “Five B’s Project”, Bring Back Burnside’s Boulder Butterfly, working to rebuild the stone-covered habitats where the purple and orange-coloured butterflies live.
Watch the video above as KEA Kids News reporter Riley Goodall, 10, of Burnside Primary helps his classmates find butterflies in the wild and release them into their new home.

The former local schoolmaster’s house and the workman’s cottage have both undergone extensive repairs and strengthening work following the 2010-11 earthquakes. Both the dwelling and cottage’s chimneys have been strengthened and repaired and cracking on the inside walls fixed.
In the cottage, the kitchen floor has been re-levelled and new vinyl and kitchen joinery installed.
They will soon become private residences, prompting a special “open home” for local residents at Kapuatohe Reserve.
Early principal Henry Wilson was the first to live in the schoolmaster’s house with his family. The building continued to house school staff until 1972.
English architect Thomas Cane, who designed the Gothic Revival-style timber house, was also responsible for the Timeball Station in Lyttelton.

“I dared to hope – we dared to hope. It’s something that we put a lot of work into, and we’re obviously surprised and completely delighted.”
Pallett had just pulled off perhaps the most unlikely of election night coups – ousting National’s Gerry Brownlee to win Ilam, a seat the National grandee held since 1996.
Brownlee called her to concede victory about 10.30pm, leaving her with tears in her eyes and needing the steadying reassurance of campaign manager Megan Woods as the enormity of what had happened hit home.
