Activities include camping, tramping, … View moreIf your teenage son or daughter is interested in the military or is looking for a challenging youth organisation try cadets: The New Zealand Cadet Corps (NZCC, Army Cadets) and the Sea Cadet Corps (SCC).
The New Zealand Cadet Corps has an army flavour. Activities include camping, tramping, target shooting, leadership training and first aid. The Sea Cadet Corps has a naval flavour. Activities include sailing, seamanship and naval visits. Both the NZCC and SCC have camps and courses on military bases.
There's one NZCC unit in Christchurch, the City of Christchurch Cadet Unit. It meets on Monday nights, between 6:30 pm and 9 pm, at the Cadet Training Centre at 43 Corsair Drive, Wigram (near the old control tower).
The Christchurch Sea Cadet unit is TS Godley. It meets on Tuesday nights, between 6:30 pm and 9 pm, at HMNZS Pegasus in Montreal Street (the military recruiting centre, near Bealey Ave).

"Arrest made in scam targeting elderly victims"
To be attributed to Detective Sergeant Colin Baillie:
Christchurch Police have this morning arrested a 22-year-old man in relation to a telephone scam that has been targeting elderly people across New Zealand.
The man will be appearing in Christchurch District Court this afternoon on five charges of causing loss by deception, as well as perverting the course of justice and breach of bail.
The charges follow a police investigation into the scam, whereby offenders make contact with elderly people over the phone, claiming to be from power companies and banks and threatening to disconnect their power if payment is not made immediately.
Enquiries into the scam are continuing, and Police still have a large number of people to speak to in relation to this offending.
We would like to hear from anyone who believes they may have been a victim of this scam and has not yet spoken to Police; and to anyone else who might have information pertinent to the investigation.

Police would also like to reiterate that banks will never ask for account details over the phone.
If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from your bank and they ask for such details, hang up immediately.
Other advice for people who receive calls of this nature includes:
• Seek validation of who the caller actually is.
Always ask for a full name and the company or agency details.
• Validate the phone number of the caller and ask that they call you from a landline if they are using a mobile phone.
• Ignore calls from unknown mobile numbers.
• Don’t share your personal details until you are convinced the caller is legitimate.
• If you are threatened, simply hang up.
• Don’t trust anyone who calls you and asks for financial information such as your account details and password – again simply hang up, call them on their published contact 0800 number or arrange a meeting at the relevant agency branch.

Does anybody have room in their home and heart for two very beautiful and much loved little dogs, Ella and Louie? Their mum and dad are leaving New Zealand soon to pursue work opportunities overseas and with great sadness need to find a new home for these little cuties.
Ella and Louie are mother and son, and need to be adopted together - single adoption is not an option.
Ella is a 10 year old female Pomeranian x Japanese Chin. Her mum says she is very chilled out but a little madam at the same time. She absolutely loves cuddles and is very friendly with all dogs big and small
.
Louie is an 8 year old male. He is Ella's son and his dad is a Foxy x Chihuahua. He too is chilled out but more clingy and slightly anxious. He is great around other smaller dogs but more afraid of larger breeds. He loves being the baby and just wants to be with you and follow you around.
