Native mistletoe anyone?

Mei Leng Wong Reporter from NZ Gardener & Get Growing

Christchurch correspondent Mary Lovell-Smith planted native mistletoe. It's not quite ready this Christmas, but it was for a good cause, and surely that's good enough for this festive season?

Lovely 3 year-old black cat

Caroline from Richmond

Hi everyone. We are having to move to a new rental home which won’t allow us to keep my daughter’s much-loved cat. We’ve asked everyone we know if they’ll take her, but they have enough pets already or else are in the same ‘no pets allowed’ situation as us.

Hi everyone. We are having to move to a new rental home which won’t allow us to keep my daughter’s much-loved cat. We’ve asked everyone we know if they’ll take her, but they have enough pets already or else are in the same ‘no pets allowed’ situation as us.
I’m getting a bit anxious now as we have to move next Friday week and would desperately like to find a happy new home for her. She is fully house-trained and well-behaved.
Please let me know if you’d like to adopt her.
Kind regards, Caroline and Lily.

Let’s use this day to celebrate and recognise New Zealand’s volunteers for the invaluable work they do in our communities, locally and globally.

“THE BEST WAY TO NOT FEEL HOPELESS IS TO GET UP AND DO SOMETHING...IF YOU GO OUT AND MAKE SOME GOOD THINGS HAPPEN, YOU WILL FILL THE WORLD WITH HOPE, YOU WILL FILL YOURSELF WITH HOPE.”
- Barack Obama, 44th President of the United States

For us I'd like to recognise the many Volunteer Interviewers who staff three branches and two satellites in Christchurch. Hours and hours of time are given to helping others and commitments to continued training and development. Thank you, thank you, thank you

But there were successes. In particular the Steady As You Go programme now being promoted across NZ by Age Concern. There are 30+ groups in Christchurch. U3A is an organisation with strong membership growth, that could incorporate Steady as You Go groups into their activities. There is also enormous potential for community groups to engage in health education. This is very exciting, because so much has changed and most doctors, and the great majority of the public, are completely unaware of the new science, driving a revolution of new dietary ideas, and new exercise proposals.
