Tūranga, the Christchurch Central Library, will be the largest library in the South Island and a third larger than the city's former central library, which was demolished after the February 2011 earthquake.
It's expected to open later this year, but an exact date is yet to be confirmed.

St Albans and Mairehau residents have joined local businesses in opposing proposed changes that would channell traffic to and from the $240 million motorway past their doors when it opens in 2020.
Locals, including Christchurch Central MP Duncan Webb, have made submissions and more than 100 others have launched a petition asking the Christchurch City Council to rethink how to link the motorway to the central city.
"Why are Christchurch residents having to be disadvantaged by traffic from North Canterbury being forced down our roads?," the petition asks.
"These are people from a different district that don't pay rates here, but the residents and business in St Albans, Mairehau and Edgeware are paying the costs socially and financially to accommodate these people so they can get to or from the city a few minutes faster."

Hi neighbours! As we all know, there are ongoing roadworks around Stanmore-Nth Avon roads which can be a bit of a pain to deal with. As we all know, there are ongoing roadworks around Stanmore-Nth Avon roads which can be a bit of a pain to deal with. I popped into the wee Post Shop/ stationery shop situated at the Richmond mall? top end of Stanmore Rd today to send off a few parcels. Briefly talked to the owner who said due to the roadworks his business has dropped off significantly. Usually his customers park on Nth Avon but now the road is being worked on there is no parking space but as he has doors front and back of his shop ( in case some don't realize) there is plenty of parking space at the back which is in the wee mall. It would be good to try and keep supporting our local businesses if possible. The roadworks obviously need to be done but often tend to drag on longer than the schedule says and it must be really hard for the business owners to make ends meet. Anyway, just a thought and thanks for reading. Keep warm everyone!

The incidence of bowel cancer in younger adults is rising in New Zealand. 10% of bowel cancer patients are under 50 – that’s more than 300 a year. Each year about 3,000 New Zealanders are diagnosed with the disease and more than 1,200 will die. That’s as many as breast and prostate cancer combined.
