Fireworks are a ton of fun but carry real risks that need to be taken seriously. If you plan on lighting some here's some tips to keep everyone in your community safe and happy.

โŒ 1. Never light fireworks in dry or windy conditions.

๐Ÿ”ฅ 2. Only use fireworks in wide open areas, away from flammable items such as trees, grasses, gas tanks, and wood.

๐Ÿ’ฆ 3. Keep a bucket of water or hose nearby.

๐Ÿ‘ง 4. Children should never light fireworks themselves and need to be supervised closely at all times.

๐Ÿงฐ 5. Keep all unlit fireworks in a secure bag or container away from any source of fire until they are ready to be used.

๐Ÿ“ž 6. Be considerate and let neighbours know if you're planning to set off fireworks. Aim to finish at a reasonable time.

๐Ÿฑ 7. Keep pets comfortable and secure inside. The loud booms and flashing lights can easily scare them off.

๐Ÿฎ 8. Avoid lighting off fireworks around farm animals and be aware of any newborns or elderly neighbours who may also be affected. If possible, change locations to somewhere that minimises any disturbances.

๐ŸŒฟ 9. Be a tidy Kiwi and let's work together to keep New Zealand beautiful! Clean up any any rubbish and leave your spot better than you found it.

EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHERS NEED TO BE HEARD
The government says it wants Aotearoa to be the best place in the world to be a child. That won't happen unless we properly value early childhood education. The first 1000 days of a child's life are crucial.

When we undervalue ECE, we're undervaluing children's development," (Ms Oakley)

"There is a funding crisis and a huge pay gap in early childhood that's just not okay. On average, early childhood teachers are paid 23% less than other teachers with exactly the same qualifications and experience. Next year that will blow out to 49% for some. That's just not right, and it won't lead to good outcomes for children."

"ECE Voice is about the entire sector, whether they're union members or not, coming together to say the funding crisis and pay gap are not okay.

We're PLEADING FOR you to add your support for more government funding and a commitment from the government to fix the pay gap.
