To help, New Zealand Red Cross provided $6.9 million to 179 Canterbury schools, designed to improve the well-being of children by funding a range of school programmes, events and initiatives.

Find out the difference this funding made to both the schools and students in the sixth of our 10 Good Stories videos. These videos show all the ways Red Cross helped one in five Cantabrians recover from the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes, thanks to the generous donations of people from New Zealand and beyond.

Western Valley Road will be closed for the evening due to a bridge washout. There are alternative routes from Port Levy to Pigeon Bay so the washout has not isolated houses.
