Several international players, including New Zealand Blackjacks; the coach and some players of Tactix netball team and other sporting organisations were present. Everyone split in teams and played for an hour of so, before joining in the club rooms for mix & mingle.
The competition runs from 29th November to 11 December, and will be played at 3 different venues - Burnside Bowling Club, Fendalton Bowling Club and Bowls Papanui.
This competition will see 34 countries represented by about 240 players. Some teams have just 1 players, while others have a squad of 10. They will be playing in fours, triples, pairs and singles - in both men and women categories.
The teams come from countries as diverse as Brunei, Cyprus, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey and Macao - to name a few.
Cr Aaron Keown, fellow community board member Aaron Campbell and I attended this event on behalf of FWH community board, as well as tried our hands at lawn bowling - with varying degrees of success!
Coincidentally, all 3 venues are part of FWH area.
Mayor Lianne Dalziel will welcome all the teams formally on behalf of the city of Christchurch on Monday 28th at Civic offices.

But for some families it's not an option - especially if you live in a rural area, or your kids go to a school on the other side of town. So tell us the main mode of transport by which your children or grandchildren commute.
Plus: Don't forget to join up to a Foot It Club at www.neighbourly.co.nz..., and go into the draw to WIN one of 50 Micro scooters.

We're backing schools to set up walking buses and other solutions, with parents and volunteers helping local kids get to class safely.
We wrote to the nation's mayors pleading with them to lower speed limits outside schools, and many have come back to us with expressions of support. We talked to well-known New Zealanders with school-aged kids, and they united behind the campaign.
You can get involved too. We know people are busy, so the Sunday Star-Times and Neighbourly are encouraging families to choose one day a week when they and their kids walk, scoot, cycle - even ride a horse if that's what works for you!
I've chosen Mondays as the days I'll cycle to school with my 6-year-old son. And Neighbourly has set up a special pledge page, where you can choose a day when you will try to Foot It with your kids, talk with others doing the same - and go into the draw to win one of 50 Micro scooters. www.neighbourly.co.nz...

In Feb 2017 our landlord is selling up so we will be on the lookout for a nice, warm and dry family home. My wife and I both work and our two children attend primary school. No pets. Non smokers. Would love to hear from anyone with such a rental property near Ilam.

On Monday, we had our first meeting of FWH Community board. During this, we heard 3 deputations by appointment (2 relating to a proposed liquor store and 1 relating to yellow no-parking lines); while on the other hand we approved funding grants for 4 different applications - all involving young students. It involved a scout group, a volleyball competition, "outward bound" course and student exchange programme!
On Saturday, I attended Justice of Peace training, where one of the presenters was fellow community board member Sam MacDonald - giving us JPs an insight into Rata Foundation. Sam is one of the trustees there.
Later that day, several Neighbourly Leads from across Christchurch met at Betty's Cafe. It was nice to connect with each other.
"Celebrate Bishopdale" was held on Sunday, in perfect weather. It was great to see an excellent turnout with members of community enjoying what was on offer. Scores of children from local schools put up pleasing performances. Cr Aaron Keown and several community board members attended the event.
Today (Monday) - we do not have a regular community board meeting - but we do have a workshop on annual plan. Thereafter, I will be attending a community meeting organised by Hon. Nicky Wagner (Christchuch Central MP) where the minister of Immigration Hon. Michael Woodhouse will be speaking.
Did I forget my usual Wednesday evening Rotary meeting....
Have a nice day.
