Sports lake, large-scale housing, golf course all scrapped from Christchurch red zone planning

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from The Press

The legacy of people taken into state care who suffered neglect and abuse is a stain on our country’s history. Over the next three years, the Royal Commission will listen to stories about the experiences of people in state care and examine ways to stop any further abuse.

Before that process can begin, the Terms of Reference to define the scope and purpose of the Inquiry need to be set. Sir Anand would like to hear your views on the draft Terms of Reference so we can work together to make sure we don’t repeat the mistakes of the past.

Songkran Festival
Celebrate the traditional Thai New Year!

Songkran, the traditional Thai New Year, is celebrated nationwide in Thailand, usually from 13 to 15 April.

One part of the celebration is religious, marked by merit-making at local temples, ceremonial bathing of Buddha images as a symbol of homage, sprinkling parents’ or elders’ palms with a few drops of perfumed water as a demonstration of love and respect, and ceremonies to pay respects to members of our families, and friends, who have passed away.

Other parts of Songkran are fun-filled, with good-natured water throwing, cultural performances, music, dance, sports, and games.

Here in Christchurch, at Wat Buddha Samakhee, we will gather to observe the occasion on Sunday 15 April 2018 with monster Thai food fair, Thai music and dance, lucky dip, and Miss Songkran beauty contest.

The Songkran Festival Organising Committee cordially invites you, your family, and friends, to join with the local Thai community to celebrate Songkran.

When:
15 April 2018
10am to 3pm

Venue:
Thai Buddhist Temple (Wat Buddha Samakhee)
359 Marshland Road
Marshland
Christchurch

Pricing: Free

Technology to make your home smarter and safer

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from The Press

Remembering to set the alarm before you left the house used to be about as complex as home security got. But now it's increasingly common to have a fully integrated system that links in with several other gadgets around the house, controlled via an app on your phone.
