Although our original planning was focused on encouraging preparedness for the likelihood of the Alpine Fault rupturing in the future - our other aim is to also enable a good opportunity for our residents & community groups to connect further & greater awareness of where to look for more support.
We have a local resident & an excellent Guest Speaker: Tyler Barton who has kindly offered to share his fabulous knowledge & awareness about this topic & how we may be better prepared for it- we also intend for this to help connections between our residents & local community groups!!
Our SCERT certainly does not intend for this event to not add any extra stress or concerns for our residents after the traumatic events unfolding from Friday 15th March - hopefully this event may actually reassure our community and residents by enabling better conversations & awareness of the supporting community groups / individuals instead.
Thanks to Somerfield School Principal: Ms Denise Torrey for offering to address our community on this evening and enabling our residents to utilise the Somerfield School Hall for this event while St Marks Church /Hall is being renovated currently.
Hopefully we may see many of you at Somerfield School on Thursday as we have many individuals & community groups gathered for you to meet with and learn who you may connect to - if ever needed!
Any community groups attending with displays, leaflets etc will be invited to introduce themselves very briefly in the 15minute break between Tyler's 2 main presentations.
Would you or your community group like to be better known or represented to our local residents?
We will have representatives from Civil Defence, Neighbourhood Support, Red Cross, local Resident Associations, Community Patrol, SCERT & many others...
Tea, coffee and refreshments will be available on the evening.
Free NZ Blood Pens, SCERT Packages & other assorted useful leaflets will also be available on the evening!!
We look forward to seeing many of you this Thursday!!
Warm Regards Julie Tobbell.

St Andrew's College students Ella Clearwater, Marshall Setu and Manaia Butler, all 16, are organising the March for Love event on Saturday at North Hagley Park.
Rolleston Ave would close so the group could march from North Hagley Park to the flowers outside the botanic gardens. The march will start at 10am.
Scott Esdaile is organising another event called Remember Those Who Lost Their Lives 15-3-19 on Sunday from 5pm to 7pm, also at North Hagley Park.
The event was originally planned for Tuesday in Cathedral Square but it was postponed until Thursday, then again until Saturday, out of respect for the Muslim community.

The Dryer is working perfectly and is the model with a condenser which means you don't need to Vent it. These machines would be around 10 yrs old but have been serviced and only used by retired couple. Any reasonable offer will be considered as they are now sitting in our garage. Oh 021 666 583.
